ABOUT

I was born on November 16, 1964 in Hartford (USA) to a Japanese mother (Teiko) and an Italian father (Enrico) and lived there for the first three years of my life. Then I went to Norway, where I lived until I was 6 years old, and then I went to Italy, where I currently live. During my high school years at the Collegio Arcivescovile Ballerini in Seregno near Milan, I developed a passion for philosophy and psychology, which intensified during the years of my medical studies and led me to study psychiatry. During my professional career, I was fortunate to meet excellent masters, including Prof. Laura Bellodi, Prof. Francesca Brambilla, Prof. Eric Griez, Prof. Donald Klein, Prof. Charles Nemeroff and Prof. Enrico Smeraldi, and I dedicated my interest to the study and treatment of anxiety and emotional disorders, a field that still stimulates my interest.

In these years (more than 30!) of experience in the field of anxiety and emotional disorders, I have gained some convictions:

  • That it is important to respect patients as persons.
  • The central role of scientific methodology and reasoning as indispensable guides.
  • The centrality of availability to people who are suffering.
  • The need to consider the patient as a complex subject that is the result of their genetics, their life experiences and the environment in which they live.
  • The awareness of the profound lack of knowledge about the mechanisms of our mind and brain and of the long road that research and human thought must travel to reach this goal.
  • The importance of teamwork in the knowledge process and in mental health.
  • The central role of open and transparent discussion as a starting point for personal growth.

The reason I have created this website is because I firmly believe that practitioners, clinicians, collaborators and researchers who wish to work or collaborate with me, but most importantly all patients who intend to come to me for help with their mental stability, have the right to know fully and transparently who I am.

Here are some key words that express me: person, availability, facts, experience, science, team, transparency, perseverance, anxiety, panic, fear, emotion & personalized medicine.
